Video ‘As The Academy Turns’
As the Academy Turns is a multilayered project exploring the potentials and the tensions in the growth of artistic research and the current academization of art education. During a three-day symposium on 2,3 and 4 December 2010 exemplary research projects from prominent European art academies where presented and discussed at Manifesta 8 in Murcia.
The academies involved include: maHKU, Utrecht Graduate School of Visual Art and Design, Malmö Art Academy, Escola de Artes Visuais (Lisboa), Finnish Academy of Fine Arts (Helsinki), Slade School of Art (London), Leeds University, GradCAM, Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media Research (Dublin), Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Universita IUAV di Venezia, Universidad de Granada, Academy of Fine Arts (Vienna), Gothenburg University and the University of Westminster (London).
The project As the Academy Turns is developed by EARN (European Artistic Research Network)in collaboration with Manifesta Education, Murcia University and Cendeac.

The upcoming edition of MaHKUzine: Journal of Artistic Research published by the Utrecht Graduate School of Visual Art and Design will feature an extensive report and review of the symposium and of the contributions. MaHKUzine is available as hardcopy and as (free) download on the above website.
