In memory of Lioba Reddeker
We are greatly saddened to learn of the death of long term Manifesta collaborator Lioba Reddeker. Highly respected by her peers, her passing is a loss to us all. Lioba Reddeker died in Vienna on 27 August 2011 after a long illness.
Lioba Reddeker was born in 1961 in Hövelhof / NRW, Germany. She studied art history, German and journalism at the Universities in Bonn and Münster. In 1988 Lioba Reddeker moved to Vienna, working for galleries and on contemporary art projects, and from 1993-98 she supervised art sociology research projects in both Germany and Austria, on topics such as the production and collection of contemporary art.
Lioba Reddeker was the federal art curator from 1997 to 2000 and in this capacity she founded in 1997 the “basis wien – Kunst, Information und Archiv”, a documentation centre for contemporary art, which under her administration was involved in numerous international research projects on creating digital archives of works of art. The basis wien has become a leading online archive and has developed a database that now holds more than 175,000 data files and millions of links. From 2003 to 2007, Mrs Reddeker taught arts management at the Fachhochschule Kufstein and lectured at the Kunstuniversität in Linz. Beginning in January 2005, Lioba Reddeker also served as the artistic director of the HangART-7 programme in Salzburg, which has meanwhile hosted 18 exhibitions featuring artists and participants from many countries, from Spain to South Africa to Iceland.
Our thoughts are with you, as with your friends, family, and colleagues.
