Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.
Nesrin Tanç, DE

Bergüzar II, 1990/2025. Handcrafted textile using the Turkish crochet technique (tığ işi), fine cotton thread 4 pieces 17 × 15 × 4 cm.
In her work, Nesrin Tanç combines research and artistic practice to explore memories on different levels. Using the means of science and art – installations with audio works, music, textiles, everyday objects, crafts and arts and crafts – she layers personal and collective traces of memory. Her works are based on in-depth research on personal and collective memory traces and use a variety of means such as conversational recordings, textiles, music, crafts, performative forms and literary analyses. With lengths of fabric, auditory patterns and handcrafted objects, she layers invisible nets to make memories, narratives, cultural knowledge, upbringing, origin and education tangible.
