Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.
Fatma Ceylan, TR

Untitled, n.d. Ensemble of numerous textile works Crochet, knitting and embroidery in cotton, wool and synthetic fibre, some with glass beads.
Since her childhood, Fatma Ceylan has had a passion for wool and needles. But what began as a family tradition became a vital anchor after the 22nd of December, 1992. On that day, a racist parcel bomb attack radically changed her life in Cologne. After years of silence and lack of recognition, she found a form of therapy in handicrafts. Today, her crocheted and knitted works are much more than pure craftsmanship: they are signs of resistance and healing. Since 2022, Fatma has been actively fighting for justice and networking with other affected people. These works show her journey from pain to artful passion.
