The artistic work of Cihangir Gümüştürkmen, born in Izmir in 1964 and living in Berlin since 1977, is a fascinating kaleidoscope of creative forms of expression. As a self-taught artist, he moves between painting, installations and objects as well as video and performance. His works – from vividly coloured collages reminiscent of Pop Art to hyper-realistic oil paintings – create a synthesis of different eras and styles. With allusions to his origins and childhood, Gümüştürkmen combines cultural narratives that lead to surreal visual worlds.
