Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.
Julia Logothetis, AT

Kurdischer (ehemals „Türkischer”) Gastarbeiter in Wien (Kurdish (formerly “Turkish”) Guest Worker in Vienna), 1977 – 79. Oil on canvas 90 × 75 cm Venue - St. Bonifatius.
At the centre of Julia Logothetis' artistic work is the attempt to make structural violence visible and perceptible – in the hope of helping to overcome it. The starting point is often photographs found by chance from the private environment of friends. She transforms these into oil painting with painterly distance. Her pictures move between documentation and inner resonance: they reflect social realities as well as individual experiences. In this way, external images of reality are intertwined with inner sensations and memories.
