Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Evita Vasiļjeva is an artist and educator based between Riga and Paris. Informed by her upbringing in post-Soviet Latvia, she draws inspiration from unfinished buildings, fragmented landscapes and traces of a society rebuilding on top of its past. Working across outdoor sculpture, site-specific installations and sensory environments, she transforms disregarded materials and architectural fragments into new forms with reimagined functions. Her practice explores tensions between history and future, decay and renewal, weaving together architecture, memory, dreaming and space. Conceptually rigorous yet open-ended, her work invites viewers to bring their own histories and perspectives to the interpretation.
