Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Dead Natures / Living Evidence. Copper-plated leaves and branches, soil, plants, aerated concrete blocks.
Athina Koumparouli is a visual artist and art conservator. Her multidisciplinary research focuses on sites undergoing rapid transition, such as industrial zones, disaster-affected landscapes and archaeological excavations. Often employing archaeological methodology as an artistic tool, she explores different perceptions of the environment and aspects of the environmental crisis through present and speculative scenarios. Through themes of memory, change, adaptation and healing, she creates multilayered installations and texts that trace relationships between material culture, living landscapes and technological infrastructures.
