Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

How long a Clapper’s Shadow Falls.
For more than 25 years, the Duo Barber-Palacios (Llorenç Barber Colomer and Montserrat Palacios) have been performing over 300 bell concerts in more than 50 countries across Asia, Latin America and Europe. The performances include drums, cannons, sirens, ships, fireworks and marching bands throughout the area surrounding the bell towers. For their concerts they have so far collaborated with up to 1,700 musicians on rooftops, in bell towers, on ships, and in helicopters, or even moving through the streets in procession. Bringing to life Llorenç's aesthetic vision "to transform the city into an orchestra" through what he calls "plurifocal music".
