Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Havîn Al-Sîndy lives and works between Kurdistan and Germany and understands art as a social, ecological and political practice of looking closely, unmasking and resisting stereotypes. Originally trained in biology and chemistry, she uses her scientific precision in her drawings, installation, performance and video work. Her artistic practice is a continuous interplay between body, memory, war, flight, language, immaterial archives and ecology. Her works are created by their surrounding: paper is buried in the ground, clay is formed into architecture, voices are fragmented and reassembled. She teaches and conducts research at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts.
Havîn Al-Sîndy was born in Başûr, Kurdistan.
