Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Philipp Gufler researches questions of queer imagery and challenges the Western view on history, in which heterosexuality and a binary gender system are the social norm. In his work he uses various media, including silk-screen printing on fabrics or mirrors, artist’s books, ceramics, performances and video installations. Gufler has been an active member of the self-organised Forum Queer Archive München since 2013.
