Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Emerging as a response to the disappearance of traditional textile practices, Weberei Kai's team consisting of Katie Dimpfl, Jonathan Frangenberg, Catrin Lorch and Karl Menden collects ideas and samples, develops designs and weaves lamps, baby blankets, monkey seats, book aprons and cable harnesses. Everyone is invited to participate. To weave with Weberei Kai is to be encouraged to experiment with guidance.
