Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Kateryna Lysovenko is an artist and works with monumental painting, drawing and text. Kateryna is engaged in the study of the relationship between ideology and painting, the production of the image of the victim in politics and art – from antiquity to the present day. Lysovenko looks at painting as a language that can be instrumentalised or liberated. Before the fullscale invasion she lived in Kyiv, Ukraine and now lives and works in Vienna.
